Pink Trees

by Marieke Wouters

Pink Trees is a poetic landscape in which colour and simplicity combine to create a dreamlike world. Soft pink trees are scattered across rolling hills, whilst deep shades of blue and warm sandy colours shape the landscape. The minimalist composition leaves plenty of room for the imagination and invites the viewer to pause for a moment in a tranquil setting where time seems to stand still.

The atmosphere of the work is calm, contemplative and slightly melancholic, without ever becoming heavy. The pink trees lend the landscape an unexpected, almost fairy-tale quality. The image evokes thoughts of a walk in early spring, when nature is awakening and the world seems full of new possibilities. A sense of freedom and gentleness emanates from the collage that lingers long in the mind.

The inspiration for this work stems from simple observations of the landscape and the way in which colour can enhance a memory or a feeling. It is not about a specific place, but about the experience of looking, walking and being filled with wonder at the beauty of nature. In this way, the work reflects an attitude to life centred on an appreciation of simple moments.

The collage is composed of carefully selected types of paper, hand-torn shapes and subtle colour contrasts. The visible edges and layering give the work depth and an artisanal quality that enhances the simplicity of the image. Pink Trees fits beautifully into a Scandinavian interior, a modern minimalist interior or a calm, contemporary living space.
