About ‘Plums with drops - freshness in the dark’ by Sabine Schemken

Pure freshness takes centre stage here: ripe, deep red plums, freshly washed, with countless fine drops of water on their velvety skin. One fruit still has a green leaf - a small, natural colour accent. The soft light from the side makes the drops glisten, while the background disappears into dark shadow. This makes the fruit look almost like gemstones in the semi-darkness.

What attracted me to this motif was the contrast between the cool, damp surface and the warm colour of the fruit. At the same time, it also harbours a personal memory: as a child, I loved climbing up the full plum tree, helping my grandfather with the harvest - and, of course, having a good nibble. These images of sunshine, ladders and delicious fruit accompanied me as I photographed them.

The narrow perspective and dark surroundings create a sense of calm and focus on form and structure. The picture combines freshness, naturalness and sensuality and is ideal for kitchens, dining rooms, delicatessens or restaurants. As a mural, it not only brings colour, but also a piece of lived memory and the joy of simple, genuine things.
