The gorillas (Gorilla) are a genus of African great apes belonging to the order primates (Primates), with two species. They are the largest living primates. The gorilla is a herbivore that lives in the Central and West African rainforests. Gorillas live primarily on the forest floor. The male has a height of between 1.65 m and 1.90 m, and weighs between 140 and 210 kg. Female gorillas weigh about half as much. Unlike chimpanzees, gorillas hardly use any tools. There are three known cases where a gorilla used a tool: one used a stick to determine the depth of a muddy river, another used a tree trunk as a bridge, and yet another used a bamboo stick as a ladder for her young.
Gorillas are endangered species, mainly because they have long been victims of poachers.
