Extremadura is home to many bee-eater colonies. Here, near Caceres, a bee-eater (Merops Apiaster) offers prey, to a possible mate. During the period when this picture was taken, in early May, the colourful bee-eaters are busy mating and there is a lot of activity outside the nests. The males offer prey to the females to fall in their favour. Here the prey in question is a dragonfly. A warm and colourful image of an attractive situation.
