The cougar, mountain lion or silver lion (Puma concolor) is a feline animal found throughout Central and South America and western North America. It has long been thought that the cougar was harmful to wildlife and, of course, livestock. While the latter may be correct, the former is not. On the contrary, the cougar ensures a healthy population build-up of its prey animals. The cougar has been extirpated in large parts of the Americas, a fate it shares with many other felines. The cougar lives solitary and is territorial. However, it is not aggressive and prefers to avoid intruders.
