Carel Fabritius' goldfinch inspired me to create this work. Fabritius painted the goldfinch in captivity, with a chain around its leg. In the 17th century, these little birds were trained to draw water from a bowl with a thimble, and so it became a goldfinch.
This goldfinch has found a spot on an old coffee grinder, free to fly away.
