Rainbow

by Christian Ovís

Rainbow Eye depicts a bright eye against an almost black background. A ring of vivid colours bursts forth around the eyelids: yellow and orange at the top, blue and turquoise on the left, with pink and red along the edges. The iris is blue-green with fine yellow rays radiating from a black pupil. A white reflection at the top gives the eye a gleam. Dark eyelashes stand out against the colourful frame, whilst thin, teardrop-shaped lines run downwards at the bottom.

The composition is wide and concentrates all the details around the eye. The black area surrounding it makes the scattered splashes and light-coloured lines particularly visible. The cool iris provides a counterbalance to the warm yellow-red accents. The white of the eye offers a gentle respite amidst the intense colours. The curve of the upper eyelid and the scattered droplets together create a sense of movement. Up close, one can make out the tiny dots of colour and textures within the iris.

This expressive eye artwork suits a modern interior with strong colour accents. In a study, living room or creative space, the piece forms a clear focal point. Black can echo the background of the décor; turquoise, yellow or pink complement the splashes of colour. A plain wall gives the motif plenty of space. The work combines the recognisability of a gaze with a vibrant, abstract rainbow palette.
