About ‘Red lighthouse amongst the dunes, modern art’ by Lina van Oers

In the midst of a light, almost abstract dune landscape stands a single bright red lighthouse. That stark colour contrast immediately makes it the focal point of this painting. The surroundings, by contrast, are rendered in soft tones, with plenty of white, sandy hues, pale blue and a few warm yellow and peach-coloured patches.

The lighthouse does not stand in a classical, realistic coastal landscape. All around, loose lines, splashes of paint and abstract shapes intermingle. Even the marram grass is indicated merely by thin streaks. This lends the work a modern, spontaneously painted quality. At the same time, the large red area of the tower gives the composition a clear structure.

A tiny human figure next to the lighthouse emphasises just how vast the landscape actually is. That detail creates a sense of space and perhaps even a touch of loneliness. It’s as if you were walking through the dunes on a quiet day and saw the lighthouse appear in the distance.

Thanks to its light colour scheme, this is a piece of art that’s easy to incorporate into your home. It suits a beach-inspired interior, but works just as well with modern, Scandinavian or colourful interior styles.
