At first glance, it might take a second to understand what you're seeing. The photo is flipped, or at least it feels that way, because what should be the sky is a ripple of water and what should be water is the pavement we stand on. The towering form of a cathedral or grand building reflects beautifully in the Tiber, distorted just enough to look like a dream. Down below—really above, but in this upside-down moment—people walk or bike along the stone embankment like it's any other day. The contrast between the dark tones of the river and the lighter stone ground adds to the illusion, making the reflection feel almost more real than the scene itself. There's something meditative in watching the water shift the image slightly, over and over. This photo isn’t about symmetry or perfection—it’s about letting the ordinary world flip itself into something poetic, where the river holds the city upside down, just for a little while.
