A surreal ode to a city that has inspired me for years: Rotterdam Bottle Post shows Rotterdam's iconic skyline captured in a glass bottle, floating on the river Maas. A dreamscape in which architecture, water and symbolism merge. The Erasmus Bridge, De Hef, De Rotterdam, De Zalmhaven and other recognisable buildings combine to form a visual message - like a lovingly sent reminder to the world.
What makes this work special for me is the personal layer woven into it. Over the years, I have taken countless photographs of Rotterdam. In my opinion, this city is one of the most photogenic places in the Netherlands. For this digital composition, I have therefore drawn from my own photographic archive, carefully edited, combined and edited it into a new whole. The realistic representation above and below water, with the miniature Rotterdam within, creates a magical contrast between scale and meaning.
