The baby orang-utan stands but does not yet dare to do so very well alone. After all, the other monkeys also wanted to grab bananas. Fortunately, he was able to hold on safely and securely to mummy's beautiful fur.
In Tanjung Puting National Park on the island of Kalimantan (formerly Borneo) in Indonesia, orang-utans are taken in and cared for until they can live independently in the wild again. They are given food and their health is monitored. Many of these animals were found in places where they were kept as pets. There are also many orphaned animals. The mother monkey is killed for meat. They are often traumatised animals.
