This photo was taken with a 300-millimetre telephoto lens from the banks of the Kralings Plas in Rotterdam, off the terrace of the Schone Lei.
On the Plas, we see six vletjes, small sailing boats, whose sailors seem to be having a great time. Behind them, the city rises. The trees, the marinas and the pre-war apartment building on Kralingse Plaslaan are relatively close by. But also the buildings behind them, through the telephoto effect, seem almost touchable.
First, of course, the Euromast stands out. But closer inspection also reveals the Pencil, the Market Hall and even a piece of the Library. The cranes show that new icons are tirelessly being built.
The picture was converted to black and white with a touch of sepia, as this, I feel, made the image stronger.
