This intriguing image is based on a photograph of willow catkins, taken near the Icelandic town of Hvammstangi. Late April, at a time when in the Netherlands spring is already much more advanced but in Iceland the season is a few weeks behind.
By superimposing that photo in four transparent layers, each layer rotated 90 degrees in relation to the underlying one, this digital artwork was created.
By the way, the official Latin name of the species of willow in question is Salix Borealis, with an s at the end. But I liked the x better; poetic freedom....
