This micro landscape is much closer than one would think: it is an abstract macro photograph of a savoy cabbage leaf. The texture of the leaf seem to form a network of roads and paths resembling a mysterieus land viewed from above. To further enhance this effect the image was made in black and white.
Savoy cabbage is one of the oldest types of cabbage and originates from the Mediterranean. It is still widely used in Italian dishes.
The leaf of the cabbage was made extra dark and shiny by blanching (cooking briefly in boiling water) prior to photographing it. Vegetables can really look beautiful and mysterious!
