Tanker Pyxis Karteria on the North Sea en route to IJmuiden.
The pilot behind the helm the crew is ready on deck. They are preparing the ship to berth in the lock of IJmuiden. On her way to her destination in the port of Amsterdam. The crew stands ready on the bow to transfer the towline to the ready tug.
The ship carries her traces on the hull the rust marks the different layers of paint. And the drag marks of the anchor chains . The panorama of a ship just outside the harbor.
Armed with the camera on the south pier at IJmuiden I photograph many ships, sometimes with the pier in the picture. And also the ships as now on the horizon. With the sea vapor in the background, the salty air and a calm sea, it is a beautiful image of a ship entering the harbor.
Raw and the port as it is, the people who work there. The images I see there I like to photograph because it is art in itself. The harbor is a different world. The landscape of the harbor is always in motion. The ships, the people and the landscape continue to fascinate me.
