I took this photo in Tokyo, Japan. I was allowed to go this way for work and I had a number of places I wanted to photograph and of course Senso-ji Temple was at the top of the list. It is the oldest and most famous temple in Tokyo, dating back to the year 628.
It is a tourist attraction, so it was a challenge to find a composition without people in the picture. Eventually I found this spot, the stairs leading up to the entrance of the temple, where people were queuing to enter. By choosing a slightly lower vantage point and tilting my camera up a bit, the people disappeared and I had a nice view of the pagoda, which was beautifully lit in the evening. Of course, my camera was on a tripod, so I was able to keep the ISO low to get the highest quality image possible.
But I can't just press the button, I have to do a bit of tinkering at home. I do 99% of my editing at home because I have access to a big screen, a fast desktop and a drawing tablet so I can quietly edit my photos to make them suitable for hanging on the wall. The atmosphere in a photo is very important to me and I always try to bring that into my work through photo editing software.
