In the afternoon I drove from Pienza into a side road; it turned out to be the Strada Provinciale 71 towards the hamlet of Cosona.
An unpaved gravel/chalk road, or Strade Bianca.
In the distance I saw a flock of sheep, when I got closer I saw that there was no shepherd but the flock was kept together and moved by Maremma sheepdogs.
These dogs protect the flock from wolves and even bears are afraid of these dogs.
I got out and carefully walked towards the flock, as much as 2 hours it took me to gain the trust of the dogs.
I was lucky that the herd eventually kept walking around near the church ruin and the light cooperated so beautifully.
This was one of the first pictures's I took, the dogs still had to get used to me and I was quite a bit scared to get closer.
The poles with overhead electricity wires with a group of birds on them completed the picture.
