About ‘Silence on the Handelskade Nijmegen’ by Nicky Kapel

On the banks of the River Waal, the Handelskade lies in a rare moment of stillness. The residential building De Lunet catches the low sunlight, making glass and concrete glow softly against the clear sky. The layered balconies delineate rhythmically and reflect in the calm water, as if city and river coincide for a moment. The light of the early morning or late afternoon gives it a warm, almost poetic atmosphere.

In the background, the old harbour cranes recall Nijmegen's industrial past. They form a powerful contrast to the modern architecture and tell the story of a city in constant motion. Where trade and labour once dominated, there is now peace, space and waterfront living. The Handelskade shows how history and innovation do not exclude each other, but rather reinforce each other.

This photo captures not only a place, but also a feeling: the stillness of a city taking a breath. A contemporary urban landscape that exudes balance and serenity, inviting one to look, slow down and dream away. Ideal for lovers of architecture, urban photography and the character of Nijmegen.
