The Waterpoort in Sneek was built 1492. The gate served to close off access by water to the town. The gate consists of two octagonal towers, with a bridge between them over the waterway between De Kolk and the Stadsgracht at the town centre, and a gatekeeper's house above the bridge. The gate is the symbol of Sneek. In the background you can see the Watertoren, which was built in 1908 and has a height of 44 metres. The tower is a municipal monument. I took the photo one morning when the sun rose above the houses just behind me and shone beautifully on the Waterpoort.
