This photograph was taken in the summer. It shows a pool of light that falls on an area of grass in a dense forest. It conveys a sense of mystery and quiet, and a light mist separates the image into subtle layers. There is a lot of detail but changing the lightness and contrast helps to flatten certain areas, drawing your eye to the vivid green grass where the light falls. Texture has been added to create a painterly feel.
My aim was to create a feeling of calm and quiet, as if the forest is waking up to a new day. Perhaps a place that humans have never been to. A secret place that is untouched by time and humans, and untouched by outside word.
I am influenced by the landscape painters of the 19th century, and inspired by the way they capture light in a unique and dramatic way.
