I quite often jump in my car and drive around the lanes near where I live, searching for a different light that can often change the personality of a scene altogether. This is a spot I drive by most weeks, but that morning I knew the soft mist and early light would create something different. The low sun hits the tree in the background while the tree in the foreground are still in the shade, creating a depth of light and contrast in colour.
There is a texture added and techniques are used to give the photograph a painterly feel. The colours have been reduced slightly, adding a sense of age. Using my technique I am able to play with light and contrast, softening certain areas and strengthening others, which enables me to draw the viewers eye to a specific part of the image, very much like a painter would do. I aim to produce images that evoke a strong sense of nostalgia, and my subjects are almost always trees
