This lively abstract work began with acrylic paint on paper and a scan of the cover of a Japanese book from 1903, which I digitally combined and further worked on in Photoshop. The more formal spirals contrast with the free shapes, spatter and drips that provide rich texture. Dark purple, magenta, dusky pinks, warm red and a hint of golden yellow combine harmoniously into a work that is warm and colourful without being garish.
