I discovered this poetic metropolitan atmosphere in the wintry afternoon hours of 29 December 2019 in Berlin's Mauerpark.
The photo was taken during an extensive walk with the NIKON D800 camera (lens: NIKKOR 20.0 mm f/2.8).
Wall Park
The Berlin Wall used to stand here, dividing Berlin, Germany and the whole world by force. This historic site is now home to Mauerpark, a unique green space in the heart of the capital.
On the ruins of the "death strip", Berliners and visitors from all over the world have created a place of encounter.
Every Sunday, Berlin's largest flea market attracts tourists from all over the world to Mauerpark. In summer, open-air karaoke, many street artists, musicians and countless onlookers turn Mauerpark into a spontaneous folk festival.
You can also play basketball or football in Mauerpark during the week, have a barbecue with family and friends or simply enjoy the sun and the horizon. In winter, Mauerpark is a popular place for sledging.
Diversity & tolerance
The large open space in an otherwise densely built-up neighbourhood means a better quality of life and is essential for the urban climate.
Today, Mauerpark is an extremely popular place for local recreation and a meeting place for people from all population and age groups from many countries. It offers experimental musicians, artists and performers a place where they can perform independently of the commercial scenes.
