Against a bright blue sky, the flowers of the magnolia slowly open.
I took this photo on the first day of spring in 2025: a real spring day with an almost summery touch.
The magnolia is super photogenic with its beautiful growth habit, the way it spreads its branches and the buds in which you see the promise of spring for a winter.
When the flowers come out in March, it is always a celebration.
The magnolia symbolises renewal and growth.
In Japan, the magnolia has the special meaning of purity, courage and grace. It is often associated with feminine strength and beauty. The magnolia also has a spiritual significance there, where it is believed to offer protection from negative influences and evil.
The delicate but strong flower can symbolise the balance between vulnerability and strength.
No wonder it is one of my favourites in the garden.
