The Basilica of St. Nicholas (St. Nicholas Church) is a Roman Catholic church in the centre of Amsterdam. The church, officially called St. Nicholas within the Veste, was built in the period 1884-1887 to a design by the architect Adrianus Bleijs (1842-1912). St. Nicholas' Basilica is the third church with that name in Amsterdam. The first, the current Old Church, joined the Reformation during the Alteration in 1578. The second was a Roman Catholic shelter church on the Oudezijds Voorburgwal, which is now mainly known as 'Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder' (Our Dear Lord in the Attic).
The basilica is located diagonally opposite the Central Station on the Prins Hendrikkade, and continues up to and adjacent to the water of the Oudezijds Kolk. The basilica is part of the inner city parish of Saint Nicholas. As of 8 December 2012, the Roman Congregation for Divine Ecclesiastical Merit has granted the church of St. Nicholas the honorary title of basilica (basilica minor).
