Stalker castle is a four-storey medieval residential tower on the west coast of Scotland, forty kilometres north of Oban. The picturesque fortress is completely surrounded by the waters of Loch Laich, an inlet of Loch Linnhe. The name of the building is derived from the Scottish Gaelic word 'stalcaire', meaning hunter or falconer.
Around 1320 the first fortification on the island was built by the MacDougall clan. After 1388 the island came into the hands of the Stewarts and around 1445 Sir John Stewart built Castle Stalker in its present form. The fortress is almost completely intact.
In 1975 Monty Python used Castle Stalker as the setting for the final scene of the comedy film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. In this scene, King Arthur besieges the castle defended by French knights, where the grail is supposedly hidden, but is arrested by 1970s British police for a murder of a historian.
