About the artwork

A sailboat passes Liberty Island, with the iconic Statue of Liberty in the background. For this photo opportunity, we took the free ride on the Staten Island Ferry, which runs right past the island. Definitely worth it if you're ever in New York City.

On this bucket list trip to New York with my dad, I decided to deliberately limit myself a bit photographically. I took "only" my backup camera (a Canon D600) with the smallest and cheapest lens I had (a Canon 50mm F/1.8). This first of all because we flew with only carry-on luggage, but definitely because my creativity is always triggered more when my options are limited. Hurricane Ian made for gray skies, but that made the photography on this trip wonderfully moody and autumnal.

It was a dream come true as I finally walked the streets of New York with my camera in my hands. If you see my other work you can see that city photography and photos of architecture are my favorite niche. It was great to finally be able to do this in the Big Apple.
