Steendam – Jetty at sunset on the Schildmeer

by KB Design & Photography (Karen Brouwer)

A wooden jetty points the way to the horizon, whilst the sun slowly disappears behind the Groningen countryside. At the Schildmeer near Steendam, the sky takes on beautiful shades of golden yellow, orange, pink and soft purple. The warm evening light reflects off the calm water, making the horizon sparkle.

The weathered wooden planks form a natural line through the scene and draw your gaze to the point where sky and water seem to meet. To the left and right of the jetty, the lake stretches out peacefully. The subtle ripples on the water catch the colours of the sky, creating a soft, almost painterly reflection.

This landscape photograph exudes tranquillity, space and stillness. It is so'n moment when the day slowly gives way to evening and you don’t have to do a thing. The warm colours contrast beautifully with the cooler purple hues in the sky, giving the image a sense of both atmosphere and balance.

With this photograph of the Schildmeer in Groningen, you can bring the serene beauty of the Dutch water landscape into your home. The natural colours and minimalist composition fit beautifully into a modern, rustic or Scandinavian interior. An atmospheric piece of art for the living room, bedroom or workspace, and a lovely choice for anyone who loves to daydream about water, sunsets and sweeping landscapes.
