An already ancient variety, the peony, not related to the rose, originated in China.
In the late 18th century, the peony came to Europe.
From the unspectacular bud, an enormous number of petals spurt in a short time and together form a flower resembling a rose, not only for its appearance but also for its fantastic fragrance. Depicted here in the atmosphere of the old masters in a state of transience, it rains petals, but the flower continues to charm until the end.
