The photo "Summer of colour: Bougainvillea leaves together in pastel pink-orange shades" was made for the "Summer of colour" creative challenge of Werk aan de Muur. The artists were asked to create a work inspired by the summer of colour theme and mood board.
For this picture, I chose to photograph two sets of leaves of the Bougainvillea. A plant that needs warmth to grow and that is why you see it mostly in the south. The leaves are sun-dried and this gives you a beautiful translucent effect in the petals. I think many people recognise these colourful leaves from holidays. These leaves I photographed here are from Lanzarote.
The colours, warm cheerful colours make me feel summery and fit well within the colour palette of "summer of colour". If you zoom in on the photo, you can clearly see the grain structure of the leaf. When setting my camera, I opted for a small depth of field, to get the feeling of depth in the work and to gradually blur the background.
This picture could hang beautifully in the bedroom, dining room or just above the sofa in the living room, for example!
