What a lovely winter atmosphere in this image of the Meeuwenveen. It is quite freezing and the sun is rising. The water is frozen, the grasses and heather are frosted. The soft orange colours of the sky are reflected on the ice. The light streaks past the grasses in the foreground, making the grasses glow orange. Moments like this are short-lived as the sunlight will soon be too intense and erase the hoarfrost from the grasses.
The image is composed of four exposures to preserve as much detail as possible.
Meeuwenveen is part of the Reestdal, a nature reserve on the border of the Dutch provinces of Overijssel and Drenthe. The area is managed by Het Drentse Landschap.
