Câmara de Lobos is a picturesque fishing village located on the south coast of Madeira, west of the island's capital, Funchal. It is one of the oldest and most charming towns in Madeira, known for its lively atmosphere, scenic beauty and cultural heritage.

Câmara de Lobos was one of the first places discovered by João Gonçalves Zarco and his crew when they arrived in Madeira in the 15th century. The town has a rich maritime history, with fishing being a traditional occupation for many of its inhabitants.

The picturesque harbour is the heart of Câmara de Lobos, filled with colourful fishing boats known as 'xavelhas'. The boats and the harbour area are frequently depicted in paintings and photographs.

The town is known as a favourite painting spot of Winston Churchill, who visited Madeira in 1950. A viewpoint above the harbour is called "Miradouro Winston Churchill" in his honour.

The terraced vineyards around Câmara de Lobos are known for producing Madeira wine, especially the sweet Malvasia variety. The town is known for its culinary specialities, including the traditional drink 'poncha', a local alcoholic beverage made with aguardente, honey, sugar and lemon juice.

The area around Câmara de Lobos offers several levada walks, where you follow the island's network of irrigation canals through picturesque landscapes. These walks range from easy to medium-difficult.
