This one stayed with me longer than I expected. I didn’t think I’d be drawn to a harbor scene, especially one filled with cranes, but the light that evening softened everything. The silhouettes of the cranes echoed the mountain range behind them, almost as if they belonged there. I composed it so the cranes would rise diagonally from the shadows of the rooftops, giving some weight to the bottom half and letting the sky take over the rest. That gradient from warm orange into deepening blue felt endless in person, and I tried not to overthink it while shooting—just exposed for the sky and trusted the rest to fall into place. The colors are what carried the image for me: a mix of industrial lines against that delicate, pastel horizon. There’s something about this type of contrast that feels more real to me than a postcard-perfect landscape. Messier, maybe, but also more honest. I remember thinking, “This is what the end of a working day looks like.”
