About "Survival in the purple bush of ghosts"

About the artwork

This digital artwork was created with the help of colour manipulation. The image motif was composed with self-photographed, own photographic elements from nature, animal shots of monkeys and forest.
This magical and slightly mysterious composition symbolises the protection of the environment and rainforests. An extraordinary number of animal species are losing their habitat and dying in agony.

The colour violet lends the photo motif a unique, captivating atmosphere. Violet or purple combines emotional red with cold blue and thus all the contrasts associated with both colours. Violet makes use of the properties of both colours and thus symbolises a meta-level of the objective and the physical - the psyche, the supernatural and the incomprehensible.

More and more of the Amazon rainforest is disappearing faster and faster. Extreme drought and slash-and-burn have ensured that dramatic records were set again in 2024: Around 13,500 fires raged in the Amazon alone in the first six months of 2024. This is the highest number in 20 years. Records are also being broken in the neighbouring Pantanal. There are already more fires here than in the first half of 2020, when the flames destroyed 30 per cent of the area and 17 million vertebrates died. And the dry season is only just beginning.
How dramatic will the situation be in 2024?
