The Teide Observatory, located on the island of Tenerife, is an outstanding centre for astronomical observations. It was opened in 1964 and is located on Mount Izaña at an altitude of 2,400 metres, making it an ideal location for studying the sky. The observatory is part of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias and specialises in solar observation, which is carried out around the clock in conjunction with other observatories. Visitors can take part in guided tours to learn more about the fascinating world of astrophysics and observe the sun through special telescopes. With the Teide in the background, it is a beautiful motif, especially at sunrise, when the Teide glows in a deep red colour.
