The Temple of Inscriptions is already impressive when you stand there. It is considered one of the greatest masterpieces of Mayan culture and is known for its hieroglyphics, which provide valuable insights into the history of the city. It was built in the 7th century during the reign of King K'inich Janaab' Pakal I and serves as his tomb. The imposing step pyramid rises above the dense rainforest of Chiapas and impresses with its architecture and ornate reliefs. Inside, a hidden staircase leads to Pakal's burial chamber, which was only discovered in 1952. There, archaeologists found his richly decorated sarcophagus with a famous, detailed tomb slab that still puzzles us to this day.
