About ‘The Ambassador’ by Rene van Heerdt

I was walking through the hustle and bustle of an Indian city, surrounded by honking horns, smells and colour, when something out of the corner of my eye made me stop. There it was. Old, stately, and still in surprisingly good condition.

A small emblem adorned the grille: HM. I really had no idea what that stood for. After a quick search online, I found out: HM stands for Hindustan Motors, and this car is the legendary Ambassador.

A car with a remarkable story. It is based on the Morris Oxford, a British design from 1956, but was then produced unchanged on Indian soil for almost 60 years, from 1958 to 2014. Such a constant in a world that is constantly changing – that says something.
The Ambassador grew to become a national symbol of India. Ministers, businesspeople, senior officials – they all drove this car, usually with a chauffeur at the wheel. Loved for its spacious back seat and sturdy build, it was the car of choice for people of standing for decades.
And there it stood now. Not in a museum, not behind glass, just on the street, as if time had forgotten it.
Fortunately, there was no one around. So I took my time, walked around it and took my photos. A quiet encounter with a piece of history, right in the midst of everyday life.
That is exactly why I love travelling.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
