The Antonov 225! Imposing, impressive and unique.
In November 2016 I stayed in Houston for 2 weeks. On Friday, November 18, 2016, I would fly back to the Netherlands. On Wednesday 16 November I received a message from a friend from the Netherlands asking if I was still in Houston. I said: yes, Friday I will fly back. My friend said: Well, maybe you are lucky! The Antonov 225 is expected at Houston International Airport tomorrow afternoon! So that Thursday afternoon I went to Houston International Airport and I was able to photograph this gigantic and unique aircraft.
The Antonov An-225 "Mrija" is a cargo aircraft designed by the Antonov design bureau. Measured by maximum take-off weight, it is the largest aircraft ever built. The aircraft was designed to transport the Buryan (the Russian space shuttle). The AN 225, is an enlarged version of the Antonov An-124.
