This print is taken from the book "The Temple of Flora," published in 1807. The Temple of Flora is the third and final book of Robert John Thornton's "New illustration of the Sexual System of Carolus von Linnaeus". This book is often considered the most beautiful flower book ever. The large colorful flower posters are especially striking for their epic, unusual environment. In general, these flower posters have a rather dark, almost surrealistic atmosphere. The flowers themselves, on the other hand, are luxuriant with beautiful colours.
The original print does not include butterflies. I added these myself, using modern techniques. This makes the print just a little bit more unique and because of the 3D effect just a little bit more surreal.
