Foxes are found almost everywhere in the world. They have habitats in North America, Europe, North Africa, Asia and Australia. Foxes hunt solitary, mostly 'at night and at dusk. The fox is an opportunist: it eats almost anything. Perhaps from that comes its 'cunning' reputation? It adapts easily and switches hunting techniques smoothly. Its speed, sharp nose and sensitive ears are essential assets when hunting. It can run at an average of 6 to 13 km/h and in a sprint as fast as 60km/h. The fox can produce at least 28 different sounds and also has a wide range of postures with which to communicate. Its territory can be up to 12 km², depending on food supply, safe nest sites and the like.
