The Gornergratbahn in Zermatt is an electrically operated rack railway up the Gornergrat in the Monte Rosa region of Switzerland and is the second highest mountain railway in Europe behind the Jungfrau Railway. It leads from Zermatt at 3089 m above sea level to the Gornergrat.
The Rotenboden station is the second highest station on the Gornergrat Bahn and is located at 2815 metres above sea level. The Rotenboden station is the starting point for the world-famous Riffelsee, which can be reached on foot in 10 minutes. The tour to the Monte Rosa Hut also starts from here.
