About "The Humiliation of Parents: A Critical Look at The Childcare Allowance Scandal"

About the artwork

Parents have been humiliated by something once considered honourable: a maiden speech. A speech in which leaders promise what they will do for people was in this case used to silence the people. My congratulations go to all the coalition parties. Mark Rutte's metaphor of the vase meant to represent the Netherlands remains intact, but the parents who have been ground down by the system do not. The pottery may be intact, but the tulip in it has withered. These parents are still suffering from the old and new momentum.

This final image of the series on 1115 children marks the end of a profound project. It has taken a while to complete this series because this subject had to be treated with respect and care. These people have had to survive the abuses of others and deserve a voice. This photo symbolises the pain and struggle of parents affected by the childcare allowance scandal.

With this project, I want to tell their story and give them the recognition they deserve. The photo shows the split between the symbolism of an intact Netherlands and the reality of the crushed parents. The contrast between the unbroken vase and the wilted tulip highlights the hypocrisy and suffering that still persists.

This image is a powerful statement that should not be ignored. It calls for awareness and action to support the affected families and restore what has been lost. Let us hear the voices of these parents and ensure that their stories are not forgotten.
