The Jester as adviser and entertainer to the king, the jester as carnival figure (Bergen op Zoom). The man or woman with the two faces, in front of and behind the mask. A playful person as a poet and "wise" man/woman. This jester also has kinship with Punchinello from commedia dell 'arte.
He/she sits here at a meal when he/she rules, with carnival so-and-so for several days, with the staff within reach and a set table that recurs a lot in my work. The dining table connects; food connects people and perhaps we are invited to participate in this meal, the fruit bowl refers to Zeuxis, the Greek painter from the 4th century BC.
The comparison goes to the jester because Zeuxis laughed himself to death, whether at his own jokes or not.
