About ‘The Life Left Unlived’ by Marcus Riedel

A dark figure sits on the bank, gazing out over a vast, almost unreal watery landscape. A second figure appears on the horizon, small and distant, surrounded by shades of pink, grey and radiant gold. Between them lies the water, serving as a boundary, a mirror and a connection all at once.

The painting is inspired by C. G. Jung’s thoughts on mid-life and the encounter with the life one has not lived. At some point, the question arises as to what has become of all the possibilities one chose not to pursue. The distant figure may therefore be another person, but it may just as easily be an image of one’s own life, which becomes visible once more on the horizon.

The work was created predominantly in watercolour. Flowing glazes, pigments that blend into one another and deliberately left-behind blurriness create a landscape between external reality and inner experience. The dark figures provide a foundation for the open areas of colour, whilst light and colour almost dissolve in the water.

The atmosphere remains deliberately ambivalent. Melancholy meets hope, loneliness meets connection, the past meets possibility. The intense pink and gold prevent the darkness from having the final say.

Thanks to this contrast, the painting appears both calm and striking within an interior setting. From a distance, it unfolds as an atmospheric landscape; up close, as a psychological narrative. A work for spaces where art is not merely decorative, but is allowed to leave something open to interpretation.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
