The Dolomites is a mountain range in the Italian region of Trentino-South Tyrol. Typical of the Dolomites are the steep rock faces and peaks, created by erosion and weathering. It is a scenic beauty and in autumn the colours there are amazing. In 2009, the Dolomites were added to UNESCO's World Heritage List. The mountain range is split into two parts: the eastern and the western.
The Dolomites' highest peak, the Marmolada, is 3343 metres high. Around 15 more mountains reach the 3,000-metre mark. Three languages are spoken in the Dolomite region; German, Italian and Ladin.
