The Rua Augusta Arch is a historic arch in the shape of a commemorative arch and visitor attraction in Lisbon, Portugal, at Praça do Comércio. It was built to commemorate the reconstruction of the city after the 1755 earthquake. It has six columns (about 11 m high) and is decorated with statues of various historical figures. The considerable height from the arch crown to the cornice gives the structure a sense of weight. The accompanying space is filled with the coat of arms of Portugal. The allegorical group at the top, created by French sculptor Célestin Anatole Calmels, represents the glory that rewards courage and genius.
