On Sunday 5 January 2025, Zwolle woke up under a thin layer of snow. The historic Sassenpoort, the city's only remaining city gate, stood majestically amid this winter scene. 
In the early morning, snowflakes swirled down, giving the city a serene and almost fairy-tale atmosphere. Temperatures were around freezing, so the snow remained in many places and Zwolle was covered with a white blanket. 
However, the snowfall was short-lived. Later in the day, temperatures rose and the snow turned to rain, causing the white splendour to slowly disappear. Still, the memory of this wintry morning at the Sassenpoort lingered, a moment when history and nature came together and gave Zwolle a glimpse of a winter fairy tale.
