The Waterpoort in Sneek in the province of Friesland was built in 1492. The gate served to close off water access to the town. The gate consists of two octagonal towers, with a bridge between them over the waterway between De Kolk and the Stadsgracht at the town centre, and a gatekeeper's house above the bridge. The gate is the symbol of Sneek.
