After a beautiful walk through an immense lava landscape, we arrived at a hugely steep path up the mountain. It was quite a climb, but still nothing by what was to come, during our hike up Laugavegur, Iceland's most famous hiking trail.
The weather was cooperative, a line with lots of clouds, but mostly blue sky, allowing the sun's rays to reach the mountains, setting the landscape ablaze.
Sometimes we stopped to catch our breath, and sometimes we stopped to take a photo. Sometimes I abused taking a photo, for an extra short break. Just catch my breath, and then move on again.
An unreal and surreal landscape opened up before us. A landscape I knew a little from photos I occasionally saw on the internet, but which I know did not do justice to the landscape.
With perception comes the wind, the sky, the sound of silence. A silence that was interrupted only by my own heartbeat and my own panting. Sometimes I held my breath for a moment, just to enjoy the serene silence.
