On the Veluwe, right next to Ermelo, lies the speulderbos. Also known as the forest with the dancing trees. Therefore, in this forest you can find mainly crooked trees that sometimes even seem to grow in a curve. This is the result of cutting down only the straight trees that people used to need for building their houses and stables. Yet there are also beautiful straight trees that have endured many winters and summers. Their tops reach high above us and we often forget to look at them, but if you take the time to do so I realize that whether you look down in front of you, backwards or upwards, nature is always beautiful.
It was my first time walking in the speulder forest and I can definitely recommend the trail. According to the signs you walk 8.5 km but somehow I walked the route in 10 km. Probably because I walked back and forth so many times to take a picture or to enjoy the beautiful nature. Don't forget to make a stop at the sheepfold, you can get coffee, tea and soft drinks and the pastries are also highly recommended.
